Course Overview
Trauma Care Is a Sequence of Time-Critical Decisions.
Harvard Advanced Trauma Management 2026 is an intensive two-day educational program focused on evidence-based approaches to the assessment and management of severely injured patients.
The program connects initial trauma assessment, hemodynamic instability, hemorrhage control, transfusion, airway management, neurologic injury, special populations and multidisciplinary leadership into one practical framework for acute trauma care.
The Golden Hour Framework
Recognize → Resuscitate → Control → Reassess → Coordinate
01
Recognize
Identify immediately life-threatening injuries and establish priorities.
02
Resuscitate
Prioritize airway, circulation, perfusion and early resuscitation.
03
Control
Address hemorrhage, transfusion needs and time-sensitive injuries.
04
Reassess
Re-evaluate physiology, imaging, injuries and response to treatment.
05
Coordinate
Lead the trauma team and align multidisciplinary decisions under pressure.
Hemorrhage & Resuscitation
When Hypotension Is the First Warning
Hypotensive Trauma Patient
Problem-solving strategies for the unstable trauma patient.
Massive Transfusion Protocols
Review transfusion strategies in major traumatic hemorrhage.
Tranexamic Acid
Review TXA use within contemporary trauma management.
Airway & Thoracic Trauma
Secure the Airway. Recognize the Chest Injury.
🫁
The Trauma Airway
Airway priorities and challenges in acutely injured patients.
👶
The Pediatric Airway
Special considerations when managing airway emergencies in children.
⚠️
Thoracic Trauma
Challenging cases and decision-making in serious chest trauma.
Neurotrauma
Brain and Spine Injury: From Recognition to Imaging
🧠
Traumatic Brain Injury
Review traumatic brain injury from mild presentations through severe injury.
💥
Concussion
Review evaluation and management considerations in concussion.
🩻
Spine Imaging
When to image the spine and how to approach interpretation.
Special Populations
Trauma Management Is Not One-Size-Fits-All
👴
Geriatric Trauma
Challenges unique to the elderly trauma patient.
🤰
Trauma in Pregnancy
Clinical decision-making when caring for two patients.
👶
Pediatric Trauma
Go beyond treating the injured child as simply a smaller adult.
Injury-Specific Management
From the Playing Field to the Emergency Department
Field of Play Trauma
Acute trauma considerations in athletic and field environments.
Orthopedic Trauma
Managing extremity emergencies in the ED.
Wilderness Trauma
Trauma care across challenging and resource-limited environments.
Trauma Team Leadership
Calm in the Chaos
Advanced trauma care depends on more than clinical knowledge — it requires prioritization, communication and coordinated leadership.
Prioritize Under Pressure
Maintain focus on life-threatening problems when multiple injuries compete for attention.

Lead the Team
Coordinate physicians, nurses, consultants and prehospital personnel.
Coordinate physicians, nurses, consultants and prehospital personnel.
Communicate Clearly
Improve information flow during rapidly changing trauma scenarios.

Mass Casualty Management
When One Trauma Patient Becomes Many
Review trauma priorities when resources, personnel and time are suddenly stretched across multiple critically injured patients.
Learning Objectives
Strengthen Trauma Decisions from Arrival to Disposition
Recognize Life-Threatening Injury
Improve early identification of immediately dangerous traumatic injuries.
